The narrative describes who cowboys are and the narrator makes attempts to change the views of how the cowboys are shown in the television. They are not the manly, chauvinistic, and brave hard knock men as are shown on TV. Instead, they are only brave because they have to be according to their circumstances. They are shown as people who are emotionally alienated from others and especially their women and their families. They hardly ever discuss their feelings with their loved ones, and when they do, one reported, “I feel as if I'd sprained my heart” (Ehrlich 3). It is a clear depiction of their emotional isolation. Alienation is quite comfortable in the modern society. There are many times we are in the same room with our loved ones but we do not even utter a single word to each other. Instead, we are so consumed with what is displayed on our screens that we have right in front of us.
