PERSONALITY AND STRESS. Name University Date Personality and Stress. The extrovert female students often are always social and confident, while their introvert colleagues are shy. Introverted and extroverted have different ways of coping, to satisfy their needs (Burger, 2000). This essay is to determine whether personality influences perceived stress levels in female students. Bosworth, Feaganes, Vitaliano, Mark, and Siegler (2001), advocates that extroverts have a negative correlation with passive and avoidance coping strategies. On the other hand, their introvert colleagues have passive coping policies that are not favorable for solving a situation (Baoyong, 2000). Therefore, there exists a relationship between introversion and passive coping (Bradely, 1996). The coping strategies among the introvert female students focus on emotions, which lowers personal stress whereby, the extrovert student has a positive correlation with the adaptive coping strategies. These strategies are flexible and conducive to solving a problem. They are found to have active adapting methods (Baoyong, 2000). The extrovert female students tend to be aggressive when communicating, while their introvert fellows have low aggression in communication (Blair, 2000). Extroverts apart from being aggressive, they tend to be tolerant during an argument as compared to the introverts who lacks tolerance for discussion (McCroskey & Heisel, 2001).
